We are so lucky to have a diverse group of passionate nurses here at PANAnac that we wanted a way to get to know one another better. No better way than to feature our members in our blog! We hope to be able to “spotlight” some of you in our community as we grow. If you or someone you know would like (or can be coaxed) to be featured and answer a couple fun questions, we would love to hear from you!

For this month, your PANAnac team will be in the spotlight!

When it comes to working with the PANAnac team, what gives you the greatest pride?

Val : I am always happy and proud to see that people are so willing to learn, participate and share experiences. I thought I would dread trying to find presenters for conferences as I am a pretty shy person, but health professionals are so eager to share their passions that I was pleasantly surprised when all four people I had contacted responded they would gladly present at our 2019 Annual Conference all on the same day!! Maybe it was beginners luck 🙂

Viv: I’m so proud to work with amazing teammates that are passionate for PeriAnesthesia nursing -who all have similar visions in promoting excellence in our areas. Along with our growing community, we want to keep working hard to connect with each other throughout the province to push ourselves to be better for our patients!

Emma: I’m super excited to be a part of the PANANAC team! I get to work with two awesome teammates and be a part of a great group of Perianesthesia nurses who are so passionate about this area of nursing! I love being able to find interesting research articles and new Perianesthesia facts and sharing this information with you guys. I’m proud of what we’ve created for this group so far and I cannot wait to be a part of bringing new educational opportunities to everyone in the future!

What is the best piece of nursing advice you’ve ever received?

Val: Be open to learn something every day. Also, DiphenhydraMINE is for that MEAN itch and you need Dimenhydrinate because you ATE too much. You’re welcome.

Viv: It’s ok to admit when you’re wrong. We all make mistakes and we only become better when we own up to them. And you’d be surprised how supportive your workmates will be when you’re honest and willing to improve!

Emma: Never discredit the value you bring to your place of work. Your knowledge and experiences are an important part of what makes you a great nurse! And never be afraid to ask questions.

If you could travel to one fictional place, where would it be?

Val: Candyland!

Viv: Still waiting on my letter to Hogwarts!

Emma: Definitely Middle Earth

If you had to name one nursing skill you excel at what would it be?

Val: Getting that Versed order!

Viv: Establishing rapport with patients in short interactions. Everyone has a story!

Emma: ECG analysis and interpretation

Do you own a pet? Tell us about his/her personality.

Val: Her name is Isla and she is a 7 year old female Rottweiler. Despite her stocky stature, she is a very sweet and loving dog. Quite lazy and affectionate. She likes to hide bones all over the house, including under floor carpets that she so carefully rips up and places back on top as to cover the bone. I may have also found one under my pillow once. All thought she likes to herd children, she is very gentle with them and our infant daughter has received many slobbery kisses.

Viv: I have a 8 year old Norwich Terrier named Milo. His personality is part cat and part old man stuck in a perpetual puppy body. Like parents with teenagers, I am struggling with his social media usage… his followers on Instagram really makes me feel uncool.

Emma: I’ve got two rescue dogs, a 2 year old great pyrenees, collie cross named Podrick and a 5 month old Shepard cross named Nora. Podrick is the biggest cuddle bug despite being almost 90 pounds. He’s a bit shy around new people but once he warms up he’ll be your best friend for life. Nora is the more adventurous of the two despite being half Podrick’s size. She loves to play with anything and everything and her favourite past time is chasing the birds in the backyard

What can you not resist?

Val: Definitively sweets :p

Viv: Pandas 🐼

Emma: Craft beer or chocolate
